Breaking News: Nikola Jokic remains an exceptional basketball player.

The Denver Nuggets won 119-107 in their opening game for the 2023-24 NBA season.

Jokic, who has a long career of triple-doubles, did it again. He posted 29 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists.

Denver’s Jamavious Murray (20 points, six assists), Kentavious Cadwell-Pope (20 points) and LeBron (21, eight rebounds and five assists), and Anthony Davis (17, eight rebounds and 6-of-17 field shots) could not keep up with Jokic.

Jokic was legit when he was in his prime. I don’t think anyone can guard him in the post. He can’t be doubled because he has that elite passing. And he can leave him wide open because he differs.

This game was awaited with great anticipation, after Denver and the Lakers were squabbled over in the offseason following Denver’s four-game sweep of the Lakers last season in the Western Conference Finals.

“[The end of last season] Davis told the Lakers’ media day in October that he was “very motivated”. “… “I think that me and ‘Bron’ had some conversations about ‘We Can’t Wait.’

“Anytime we lose, that is motivation for us to prepare for the next season and try to compete for a title. That in itself is motivation, but also all the little talk that has been going on all summer — we’re ready,” added he.

Saying you’re prepared for Jokic is one thing, but dealing with him and really being ready are quite another. The Serbian center has won another game in this rivalry.
