Caleb Williams is not going to let the 2023 Heisman trophy slip through his fingers.

It’s not breaking news but the USC Trojans QB put up an impressive stat line on Saturday against the Colorado Buffaloes.

Williams’ six touchdowns in the air helped him to leapfrog Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at the Heisman Trophy odds.

Red River Rivalry will be the next major development in the Heisman Race. Quinn Ewers, behind Williams and Penix, is the current third favorite. Quinn Ewers, the Texas Longhorns’ quarterback, can cement his position as a finalist. Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel would receive a huge boost in his chances with a win.

Williams delivered the numbers that everyone was expecting him to produce against Colorado.

In the 48-41 win, the reigning Heisman Award winner threw six touchdowns and 403 yards of passing yardage season highs.

Williams’s big Saturday helped him move up from being a joint favorite with Penix in the Heisman odds to the clear favourite.

USC quarterback ended September with 1,601 yards of passing, 21 touchdowns, and only one interception.

Williams will have a more relaxed Week 6 when he plays the Arizona Wildcats. He then faces the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Week 7 before facing the Utah Utes Week 8.

Williams will also have to play Washington State and Oregon in the month of November. He’ll have plenty of chances to cement his status as a favorite.

Penix recorded his fifth consecutive 300-yard performance in the air during Week 5. Penix did not score a touchdown, but his season total of 2,000 yards was just one yard away.

Penix and the Huskies will have a full week of rest before their biggest game to date, against Oregon on the 14th.

Penix, like Williams, will have many chances to impress voters as he faces four opponents ranked ahead of him in November.

Red River Rivalry will be the focus of the nation on Saturday.

Gabriel, who is currently the third favorite for the Heisman award, has the best opportunity to improve his Heisman standing in the competition against Ewers.

Oklahoma’s left handed quarterback scored five touchdowns against the Iowa State Cyclones in a 50 point outburst.

Gabriel has scored multiple goals through the air four times this season. He needs one more of these games to defeat Ewers and Texas.

Gabriel’s current +2000 value should be reduced if he leads the Sooners in a win. If that happens, he would be listed below Oregon’s Bo Nix, Penix or Williams.

Cameron Ward, quarterback of the Washington State Cougars, is another longshot to look out for in Week 6.

Washington State hosts the UCLA Bruins for a match that will be crucial for the Cougars Pac-12 title hopes.

Ward has led the Cougars in two important home wins against the Wisconsin Badgers & Oregon State Beavers. If he can pick up a win on the road during Pac-12 play his odds will drop slightly going into week 7.
