Sept. 19 (UPI)– Ray Epps, an Arizona man at the center of a conservative conspiracy, was charged Tuesday in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Epps, 62, deals with one misdemeanor count of disorderly and disruptive conduct in distance to a limited structure and premises. A virtual plea contract hearing is set for Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia prior to Chief Judge James Boasberg.

Epps, a previous Marine, has actually stated he went to Washington in January 2021 as an advocate of previous President Donald Trump without any intent of breaking the law. He stated he took a trip there to oppose the 2020 election, which he stated he thought was taken.

In July, Epps submitted a libel claim versus Fox News and previous host Tucker Carlson over a conspiracy theory declaring he was an undercover federal representative who prompted the attack on the Capitol.

His suit states Fox and Carlson looked for a scapegoat in the consequences of the Jan. 6 riot and ruined his track record and income with “fanciful ideas” that he was an undercover FBI representative.

The conservative conspiracy declared that Epps wasn’t apprehended for his participation in the Jan. 6 riot since the Justice Department was safeguarding him. The conspiracy theory was sustained by videos revealing Epps talking about going into the Capitol and whispering into the ear of another protester throughout the attack.

Epps’ attorney Michael Teter composed a stop and desist letter to Carlson in March.

“The repercussions of your lies can not be lessened. Mr. and Mrs. Epps have actually undergone risks, intimidation, and harassment, leading to substantial financial and psychological damages,” Teter composed.

“Each time Mr. Carlson and Fox News spreads out more false information about Mr. Epps, the damage enhances.”
