Scottie Scheffler definitely appeared like the number-one ranked gamer worldwide Saturday.
His 6-under 64 rose him to the top of the BMW Championship leaderboard, as he and Matthew Fitzpatrick sit at 11-under through 54 holes.
Scheffler began his round with back-to-back birdies at the par-5 1st and par-4 2nd. Those 2 par-breakers acted as a precursor of things to come.
On the back 9, he made 4 birdies, consisting of 3 straight on the 10th, 11th, and 12th holes.
That three-hole stretch is where Scheffler made his go up the leaderboard.
When he strolled off the 9th green, where he made his only bogey of the day, Scheffler sat at 7-under for the competition.
By the time he got to the brief par-3 13th, Scheffler had actually got it to 10-under and remained in a share of the lead.
His shot of the day came at the par-5 15th, where the previous Texas Longhorn chose to take a motorist off the deck.
The CBS Sports tracker kept in mind that Scheffler’s 2nd shot on the 15th reached a pinnacle of 31 feet, however it did not even look that high.
“I have not strike motorist off the deck as much with this chauffeur as I have chauffeurs in the past,” Scheffler confessed after his round.
“The shot is truly formed well for that type of play. It’s simply a low cut. I attempted it the very first day even if I believed it would be enjoyable, and I struck a respectable shot, and after that I did it once again today since it was enjoyable.”
Unfortunately, his ‘enjoyable’ shot hurried to the front of the green, causing another birdie.
Already, Scheffler was 11-under and briefly held a share of the lead up until Fitzpatrick made a fantastic birdie of his own at the 15th in the group behind him.
The 2022 Masters champ then cooled down over his last 3 holes as he struck a number of stubborn tee shots off the 17th and 18th tees. He made 2 great par conserves on both of those holes, hence sustaining his momentum heading into the last round.
Must Scheffler go on to win the BMW Championship, he will head to East Lake ranked initially in the FedEx Cup standings. That would be a substantial offer due to the fact that whoever remains in very first starts the Tour Championship at 10-under par due to the disabled format.
Scheffler is not too worried about that rather.
“It was Saturday out here, so I’m not truly too worried about next week,” Scheffler stated. “I was simply attempting to have an excellent round of golf and simply attempt and move my method up the leaderboard.”
