The location: 1972 Carlsbad. Tim Hart is leading Husqvarna’s Bengt Aberg with Bultaco’s Serge Bacou in tow. The race was identified as a Trans-AMA and co-branded as a Grand Prix, though it did not use any FIM points. The winner was Maico-mounted Swede Ake Jonsson, who in fact swept the last 9 rounds of the series that fall.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

I have actually generally been an open class rider and in ’81/82 the HQV 430XC was my preferred device by far, I had an itch to attempt a 250 for a time. 2 concerns here, the Husky 250 XC was sluggish and I was on the big side. I got with a buddy, Rick Jones, who was a genius motor contractor and he reduced the cylinder, ported the crap out of it, developed a pipeline that was off the 430 and he turned it into a rocket. I raced a number of Nationals one it and leading fived both of them.
