A building and construction employee passed away after formwork collapsed on a Swinerton Builders jobsite in Spokane, Washington, on Tuesday early morning.
Close-by witnesses informed The Spokesman-Review that the collapse at the Spokane Tribe Casino seemed like a surge and shook the ground. It led to the death of one employee, Swinerton validated to Construction Dive.
A Facebook post from Spokane Tradeswomen suggested the departed employee was Ana Vetter, a journeyman carpenter. No other employees were included.
Medical efforts to resuscitate the employee, a staff member of a subcontractor, were not successful, according to the San Francisco-based specialist.
“The situations of this scenario are uncertain at this time and it is prematurely to hypothesize on what might have been the reason for this occurrence,” according to a declaration from Swinerton. “Our management and security groups are on website and presently collaborating with examining authorities to learn the specific cause. When it is understood we will make details readily available so it might assist others.”
The hotel and gambling establishment task is found off Highway 2 near Craig Road in Spokane. OSHA and regional authorities are examining the collapse with Swinerton’s cooperation. OSHA does not talk about open examinations. The task will stay closed through a minimum of March 8 for the examination.
